Hancock, James Lewis

James Lewis Hancock, 85, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Commonwealth Assisted Living in Christiansburg, Va. Mr. Hancock was born in Nebo, Va. to the Curtis Hancock and Flora Hubble Hancock and was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Russell Hancock; and two brothers, Graham Hancock and Carroll Hancock. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hancock was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after 35 years and worked at Lowes in Radford. He was a member of the VFW, loved gardening, hunting and his family. He especially enjoyed sitting around reminiscing with family and friends about the old times. Mr. Hancock was loved by everyone he met and will be missed greatly. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Buchanan Hancock; three daughters, Connie Wimmer and husband Lester, Deborah Greer and husband Randall, and Hope Townley and husband Pooch; a sister, Judith Hancock; brother Pat Hancock; three stepchildren; and a special stepdaughter, Elizabeth Greer; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a special friend and partner in crime, Lee Walker. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Nebo with Pastor Neil Hawks officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
