Talbott, Dorothy Leache
Dorothy Leache (Dottie) Talbott, 85, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010. Dottie was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Pulaski where she active in many areas especially the choir where she was an alto soloist. She was an instructor of Business at New River Community College for 16 years. She graduated from Emory & Henry College in 1946 and received her Master’s degree from Radford University in 1976. She received the E&H Distinguished Achievement Award 1997 (given by the E&H Alumni Association), and received Faculty Emeritus honors from NRCC in 1996. Dottie also won the National Senior Citizen Pageant in 1991 and founded the Virginia Senior Citizen Pageant in 1993. Among several other positions held in business and accounting, she was also a well-known Christian educator in the United Methodist Church serving in churches in Virginia and West Virginia. For a time she worked for the Charleston Rockets football team, serving as office manager, bookkeeper, coach’s secretary, and the team’s mascot, Rocky the Clown. She was a devoted volunteer, serving Pulaski United Way, Pulaski Business Women’s Organization, and Daily Bread food outreach. She was a former hospice volunteer and an alumni volunteer for Emory & Henry College. Survivors include her husband, Martin “Marty” Talbott; sister-in-law, Bettie Jane Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Dottie’s life will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Jefferson Street, Pulaski, with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the church.
