Thompson, Hassell Green

thompson_hassell_greenHassell Green (Hack) Thompson, 98, of Christiansburg, Va., was born on November 26, 1911, and left this earth to meet his heavenly father on Sunday, February 14, 2010. Hassell retired after 22 years of service from Hercules. Storytelling was a big part of his life, sharing those stories with family and friends. He also enjoyed drawing and painting and was a member of The Belmont Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Thompson and Lura Altizer Thompson; his wife, Judith Shelton Thompson; daughters, Jean Thompson Peters and Judy Thompson Miller. “Hack,” Daddy and Papa will be sadly missed by his surviving family, son, Lewis R. Thompson and wife, Louise, of Floyd, Va.; sisters, Aileen Wade, of Christiansburg, Va., and Mary Pugh, of Roanoke, Va.; sister-in-law, Irene Thompson, of Christiansburg, Va.; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Travis, Tater, Frankie, David, Steve, Jennifer, and John; stepgranddaughter, Jackie; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Daddy’s life is scheduled for Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Frank Peters officiating.
