Mackey, Robert Housh

Robert Housh Mackey, 76, of Fairlawn, Va. and Fallbrook, Calif., died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, April 7, 2017. Born in Washington, D.C. on October 22, 1940, Mackey moved to Fallbrook when his parents, Wilbur and Miriam Mackey, became publishers of The Fallbrook Enterprise newspaper. In 1965 Mackey was graduated with honors from Stanford University and as a doctoral student at Brandeis University taught the philosophy of science at M.I.T. Mackey with his fellow Stanford student Carl Mitcham had the first of their co-authored books, Philosophy and Technology, published by Macmillan/Free Press in 1972. This work is now available in both Spanish and Chinese language editions. Mackey lived in Kentucky for many years before settling in Fairlawn where he lived in his home beside the New River for more than 20 years. A Life Celebration for Robert will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Belsprings Presbyterian Church from 11 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, Robert asked that friends make a donation to their favorite charity.
