Helvey, Aretta Harry

Aretta Helvey, 90, of Peterstown, WV, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.

Born March 27, 1927, at Bluefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late Sid and Amber Mae Rose Harry. Aretta was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church and Peterstown Chapter 118 O.E.S. She retired from Celanese Corp., where she had worked for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Helvey; her son, Jim Helvey; two brothers, Kirkner and Dewey Harry; and one sister, Jerlean Harry. Survivors include one brother, Eugene Harry and wife Reva of Rocky Mount, VA; two sisters, Dorothy Ferrell of Rich Creek, VA, and Loraine Terry and husband Allen of Floyd, VA; one daughter-in-law, Pam Helvey of Peterstown, WV; four grandchildren, Mike Helvey and wife Brittany, Chris Helvey and wife Laura, Jodi Riffe, and John Helvey and wife Shari; and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Bryan Pruett officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 11:00 AM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV.
