Gibson, Neal

With sadness, we announce the passing of Mr. Neal Gibson on March 27, 2017. He was born on October 17, 1934, to the late Letha and Clarence Gibson of Ben Creek, WV. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Loretta Gibson, an infant daughter, Jennifer Lea, and brothers Earl, Albert, Mack, and Bernie Gibson.

Survivors include his son, Greg, of the home; nieces Jennifer Hatfield Blankenship of Ballard, WV, who was his care giver, Vicky Hatfield of Statesville, NC, Lora Beth Hatfield Bowens of St. Albans, WV; nephew, Shane Hatfield of Harrisburg, NC; one sister, Sally Smethers; one brother, Clarence Gibson Jr.; sister and brother-in-law Barbara “Honey” and Billy Hatfield of Greenville, WV; and many nieces and nephews.

Neal was a retired coal miner. Upon moving to Monroe County 28 years ago, he went to work as an electrician at the furniture factory in Dublin, VA, where he would ultimately retire.

Neal was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he received an honorable discharge in 1957. He attended the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Red Sulphur, WV. He will surely be missed by his loving family, but never forgotten.
