Slusser, John Daniel

John Daniel Slusser, 90, of Blacksburg died, Tuesday, January 31, 2017,at the Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery.

He was born in Coal Bank Hollow, Montgomery County, Va. on May 14, 1926 to the late Pat and Annie Slusser. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean, brothers, Paul, Joe, Erno, and Dennis. He retired from Virginia Tech with 30 years of service in 1988. Johnny was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bowler. He loved life and his family and will be greatly missed. He was one of the last coal miners in Montgomery County.

He is survived by his children, Sandra Richardson, and husband, Willie, John D. Slusser Jr. and wife, Cathy, Carol Viers, and husband, Michael, Michael Slusser, and wife, Carol Sue, Ronnie Slusser and friend, Jennifer, Penny Ratcliff, and husband, Phillip, and Kenny Slusser; sisters, Trudy Albert and Maggie Harris; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Honaker officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 1300 Progress St. N.W. Blacksburg, VA 24060 or the Montgomery County Humane Society, P.O. Box 287 Blacksburg, VA 24063-0287. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, VA.
