Bond, Queenie Lambert

Woman on a Mission Queenie Lambert Bond, affectionately known as Pat, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Dail, and her second husband, Royal Bond. She is survived by her children, Marcia Dail Luzier and Beverly Elaine Austin and Billy Austin; and by her grandchildren, Ben and Jeremy Luzier and Nathan and Elise Rowicki.

Pat was born Queenie Mae Lambert on New Years Day, 1924 in Rural Retreat, Va. She grew up on a cabbage farm, and even as a little girl she loved to work right alongside the men in the fields. She went into training to be a Navy nurse at the Memorial Hospital in Danville, Va. She earned her Registered Nursing degree and earned the highest score in the state on her nursing board exam. She kept her nurse’s license active until age 88 so that she could work with the Red Cross. She finished her nurse’s training about the time World War II ended and married William Dail, CPA.

Pat was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Radford for almost 60 years. Pat loved her church and served as a deacon and in any way that she could. She was the president of the Women’s Missionary Union for many years and taught Sunday school, in addition to helping fellow (and sometimes younger) church members as they aged. She loved visiting friends at their home or in nursing homes. Even the less glamorous tasks she assumed with a joyful spirit, cooking and cleaning for Wednesday night dinners and funerals, folding church bulletins, or watering the plants; she just loved to be needed. Her Christmas celebration centered around taking food baskets to her friends. Pat always said she just wanted to do a little something to help, but even a little something went a long way when she was at the church every day of the week.

Pat found joy in the people around her, she loved to work in her garden, and loved to take care of animals. She always looked on the bright side of life, even if the sky was falling around her; if you asked her how she was doing, she would always say, “Pretty good, pretty good”. Pat always wanted to be a medical missionary and finally had the opportunity in her sixties to go to Tanzania with the Southern Baptist Foreign Missions. Many years after William Dail passed away, she married Royal Bond in 1995. Pat and Royal were the happiest of “newlyweds” for the remaining 15 years of Royal’s life. They enjoyed every day together and sharing Royal’s wonderful family.

At age 88, Pat had her first of seven strokes and moved to Jacksonville, Fla. to live with Beverly and her grandchildren. At eighty-nine-years old Pat still enjoyed riding down the water slide at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park in Orlando. She loved being with family and sitting with her little dog in the Florida sunshine. This past year, at age 92, she was able to travel to Nathan’s Notre Dame graduation and be the flower girl in Beverly’s wedding. She had a great sense of humor and added a lot of laughter to life. She has taught us all to enjoy the precious life God has given us.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Radford, Va. on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 4 p.m.
