Lucado, Eugene Joseph

Eugene Joseph Lucado, 81, of the Burton Community, Pearisburg, Va., departed this life for his heavenly home Thursday afternoon at Giles Memorial Hospital, in Pearisburg, after a long illness. Born in McCoy on March 8, 1928, he was a son of the late William Andrew and Frances Dorothy Fain Lucado.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, World War II, and retired from the home manufacturing industry. With his wife, he also cared for and ran a foster home for adults. “Gene” was a devout Christian and an ordained minister with Jesus’ Assembly in Baltimore.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Thornhill, Naomi Walls, Pansy Burke, Elizabeth Perkey, Daisy Dize; and his brother, William Randolph Lucado. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of over 60 years, Thelma A. Lucado; his sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Joseph and Elsie Mae Lucado, of Narrows, Stephen Andrew and Mary Jane Lucado, of Buchanan, Wayne Elliott and Gail Lucado, of Burton; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia Jean and Donald Pack, of Pearisburg, Frances Elaine Oyler, of Pocahontas Co., W.Va., Evelyn Marie and Frank Marion, of Burton; his eight grandchildren, his 15 great grandchildren; his sisters, Margie L. Radford, of Oregon, and Dorothy L. Comeau, of Virginia Beach.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Bethel Chapel in the Clendennin Community near Narrows with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., in Pembroke, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
